Annie has been a summer resident on Madeline Island since 1978. During the winter she lives in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. Both locations offer beautiful views of the water and lovely sunsets that have influenced her paintings as well as her color palette. She has an Associate of Arts degree from Bennett College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Arizona, and was working toward her Master Degree of Fine Arts before the birth of her first child. She is a member of CBAC, Florida Watercolor Society, and the Progress Energy Gallery.
Annie works in both watercolors and acrylics. She notes, "Since I began spending time on Madeline Island, I searched for a medium that could convey the beauty of the natural environment. It was difficult to capture the rich landscapes juxtaposed with the clear waters without creating a painting that merely copied what I saw. I wanted to express a vitality and fluidness along with my great love of color. Through watercolors and acrylics I can create works that both reflect and abstract their natural environment. Along with the energy of nature I love the excitement of the human form. Everything in my art is about energy. It is my hope my paintings will give a unique and personal experience to the viewer just as Madeline Island has given each of us a unique and personal experience." Her work has been displayed in numerous shows including a very successful 70 painting retrospect show at Madeline Island School of the Arts last summer. She just finished a one man show in Sarasota. She was in a spring show at Progress Energy Gallery. She has two upcoming shows. One in Bayfield and one in Madeline. Annie's paintings are held in both corporate and private collections throughout the United State and Canada, including the permanent collection of the University of Minnesota. From the profits Margaret has donated over 1500 dollars to Guarian ad litem, and Toys for Tots. For information on the book go to Maggie. |
